Alumni Update: Katrina Galbraith, Professional Sound & Business – Live Production Major

Katrina Galbraith graduated from the Professional Sound & Business (Live Production Major) Program in 2012. Shortly after graduation, Katrina began working for the City of Mississauga as the monitor engineer for Celebration Square, and as the Front of House Engineer at Mississauga’s Meadowvale Theatre. In addition, Katrina also worked as a freelance technician for various production companies across the GTA.

Beginning in 2014, she began working with The Tea Party, commencing with work on their 20th Anniversary tour, and the re-release of their iconic “The Edges of Twilight” album. Katrina also worked as a monitor engineer for Big Wreck at that time and has also had a semi-regular gig doing mixing and monitors at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall.

In 2016 Katrina began working as the monitor engineer for the Juno Award-winning Burlington-based band Walk Off The Earth. Touring with Walk Off the Earth has taken Katrina to major arenas, stadiums and festivals across North America and Europe over the past year. In May of 2017, Katrina was with WOTE as they performed at the CBC Music Festival at Toronto’s Echo Beach, followed a week later by a stop in Alberta for the Performance in the Park Festival in Banff. With several upcoming Canadian festival stops (including Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Canada Day), Katrina will be joining the band as they tour through the U.S., central Europe, and Australia for the rest of July.

Speaking from the Banff airport, Katrina was prepping for the WOTE show in Banff on June 10th, and was then jumping on a red-eye back to Ontario for a show in Burlington the next day. Sleep was not really an option, but she clearly didn’t mind too much, given how much she loves the work.

“I’ve been in airports all day. I don’t get to sleep unless it’s on a flight. But I’m loving it. I should teach a class at Metalworks about how to stay up for a weekend and mix shows on no sleep!”
