Alumni Update: Darren Magierowski, Audio Production and Engineering

Shortly after graduating from the Audio Production and Engineering Program in 2010, Darren Magierowski began interning at Jukasa Studios in Ohsweken, Ontario. After interning and working as an assistance engineer on many recording projects, in 2013 he was given the role of Head Studio Engineer.

Darren recently engineered the 2016 JUNO Nominated Blues Album of the Year “This Is From Here” by Harrison Kennedy. He worked alongside producer Jesse O’Brien (Sole, Cowboy Junkies, Colin James) to help capture the sound and feel of the record. “It was a very organic process. All of the guys on the album were all total pros, which made the recording immediately that much easier. We also took a different approach and depended entirely on mic selection/placement and recorded the entire thing flat. No EQ, no compression etc. making it as organic as possible.” The album features musicians Colin Linden from Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and the late great Brian Griffith on guitar.

Over the past year, Darren has also worked as one of the engineers on the newest July Talk record and mixed a six part documentary titled “Of Our Own Volition” for Ontario metal band Protest the Hero. He is currently working on a film score/soundtrack for a major motion picture with Wade McNeil of Alexisonfire.
