Alumni Update: Darren Benner, Professional Sound and Business – Studio Production Major
Graduated From: Professional Sound & Business (Studio Production Major) Diploma (2008)
Since graduating from the Professional Sound and Business – Studio Production Major Program in 2008, Darren Benner has gone on to further develop his portfolio which includes; producing, mixing, mastering and performing!
Right after graduation Darren worked in Toronto producing and mixing records for Bands such as Rogue Six, Splice’t and Max Galactic and the Cloud of Evil. Although he has since returned to Calgary, Darren has kept in touch with fellow graduates and is currently the drummer for the band Bigger Fish Than Guns with Entertainment Business Management graduate, Kevin Dorin (2007). When Darren joined the band he remixed their song “Texas T” which helped them to win radio contest “Exposure 2011”. The band won a $25,000 cash prize and the opportunity to open for Awolnation in Banff, AB. In May of 2012 the band released a self produced full length album “Through the Green Door”.
Darren has also kept in contact with Entertainment Business Management graduate Joel Martin (2010) and mastered Joel’s self produced “Home Demos” Volumes 1-4 and mastered the instrumental versions of Joel’s tracks for his latest release “The Tipping Point”.
We send a warm congratulations to Darren and his new bride, fellow graduate; Fallon Chmura (Audio Production and Engineering, 2007). Darren now plans to regroup with his band and hopes to be back in studio to prepare for another album release!
