Alumni Review: Jesse Reid, Audio Production & Engineering 2006

Since graduating from Metalworks Institute, Audio Production & Engineering Alumni Jesse Reid has been busy working in the entertainment industry. Currently Jesse is a senior entertainment technician for Carnival Cruise Lines. There, he works as a sound technician for large production shows and oversees all entertainment and technical aspects of the ship where he lives and works. Jesse’s job can range from light and stage rigging, stage automation, pyrotechnic and laser display maintenance, and of course, sound reinforcement.

Leading up to his current position, he has had a few “odd jobs” as he puts it, working as a writer/composer and recording engineer. Directly after graduation, Jesse moved back to eastern Canada, where he worked with an independent film company called, Realm Production Coalition. There, he composed, recorded and edited ADR/SFX, and mixed several short films.

Jesse has explained that after exposure at various film festivals, he had a range of career opportunities, “a TV pilot was in the works, as well as a new studio just on the other side of town”. After working as the studio technician for several months, Jesse worked as a pre-production engineer on the John Hughes album “Time,” released in the late fall of 2007. Just prior to the album’s completion, Jesse was hired by Carnival Entertainment as a sound technician to work on one of their many cruise super-liners. “To this day I still work with Carnival, and in between contracts continue to work on short films and small projects that come my way.”

Jesse Reid is proving that hard work and dedication at school does translate into a truly successful career in the entertainment industry.
