Alumni Review: Heather Crane, Show Production & Event Management 2008

Heather graduated from the one year Show Production & Event Management program in January 2008 and has since gained experience working at various notable companies in the Entertainment Industry.

Heather says of her education, “I had a great experience – very hands-on, which is great for the Show Production program as this is the practical knowledge you need in order to be successful. The teachers were all extremely knowledgeable and fun, which made going to school for long hours much more enjoyable.”

When asked who she would recommend her program to, Heather states that, “I would recommend the school to others who are extremely passionate about music and will do the work it takes to become successful in the field.”

After completing her studies, Heather began to work as a Team Lead and Brand Ambassador at Mosaic Sales Solutions, a media marketing and sales agency in Mississauga. Several months after beginning her work at Mosaic, Heather also began to work as an Office Assistant and Intern at The Agency Group, one of the lead entertainment booking agencies in the industry. As if two jobs weren’t enough, Heather then began to work as a Label Coordinator at Curve Music.

In June of 2011, Heather headed back to her roots and took on the role of Production Supervisor at our sister company, Metalworks Production Group. As Heather had previously been involved more in the business side of the industry, working at Metalworks Production Group was an opportunity to get a feel for working in live production. Regarding working at Metalworks Heather said, “Working at MPG was a great experience. I was able to learn a side of the industry that’s very different from what people see from the outside. Setting up large-scale shows and working behind the scenes was extremely fun and a definite learning experience. It taught me to be quick on my toes as things change on a regular basis and to always expect the unexpected.”

Heather is currently working at Dine Alone Records as the Database Coordinator/ Operations Assistant and couldn’t be happier as this is the company she wanted to be working with since she began her studies at our Institute. Of her current workplace she reveals, “I am learning more then I ever could have imagined and love every second of it.” Heather also works part-time for the country music label, MDM Recordings. “It’s great working at two labels that specialize in different genres because it really keeps things interesting. They are both great labels and stand for the right things – keeping Canadian music at its best and providing as many opportunities for their artists as possible.”

On what she plans on doing next, Heather expresses, “I hope to keep learning more every day using the many facets of the industry. I enjoy working on the label side of things and would love to someday work artist management into my life as well. As long as there is music, I hope to be somehow involved in the process!”
