MWI Summer Camp & Friends of We Care

MWI hosted its 2nd annual Summer Music Camp for Friends of We Care on August 29th & 30th, 2009. Friends of We Care is a non-profit organization who for the past 26 years have continued to raise funds through the food service and hospitality industries across Canada. These efforts have assisted in sending physically disabled children to summer camps since the organization’s inception. The camps are operated by the Easter Seals Society.

MWI was thrilled to be able to offer its own exclusive music camp for Easter Seals' kids for a second year. “My hope is that this will continue to be an annual event at MWI” stated Promotions Director, Julie Hoffmann. “When you participate in an event like this, you really start to understand the power of music, its potential to heal and its ability to move people. It was a great way to end the summer and was extremely rewarding.”

Activities at the camp included songwriting, recording, instrument making, drum circles and music trivia games. All of the campers left with a recording of the song they wrote collectively, as well as their very own studio demo.

“Visualizing the experience these kids received during the two day music camp was amazing. Learning how to write a song, record it, mix it and cut it on to a CD was all part of the event. Getting the opportunity to record their own demo CD left smiles on their faces that will last a life time” said Kevin J. Collins, Executive Director of Friends of We Care.

Keep your eyes peeled for some of the summer camp’s rising stars!

Funds for Friends of We Care are generated through a number of special events, including their Bowling Challenge set for November 26.
