Guest Lecture: Steve Teixeira
The Entertainment Business Management students had the pleasure of welcoming Steve Teixeira to their Entertainment & Agreements class a few weeks ago. Mr. Teixeira touched upon some of the key areas of copyright, music and merchandise agreements.
Steve had this to say about his special appearance and MWI students:
“It was my pleasure. The class was fully engaged and asked great questions. It was also enjoyable being in a room with true music fans. It would be my pleasure to be back next year.”
Currently, Steve Teixeira is the Director of Business Affairs for Universal Music Canada. While Universal's main focus is music - that is not their only business. Universal has a merchandise division (Universal Music Merchandise) and a home video division (Vivendi Entertainment Canada). As such, Steve is responsible for negotiating and drafting a wide array of music, merchandise and home video agreements.
Steve is a strong advocate of copyright reform and has been working diligently in conjunction with The Canadian Recording Industry Association to encourage the Canadian government to implement reforms in this area.
Prior to UMC, Steve worked for Sony Music Canada and for the Entertainment law firm Stohn Abramovitch. Steve has been a panellist at NXNE, Canadian Music Week and Osgoode Hall Law School's Entertainment and Sports Law Symposium. Steve graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Bar in February 2002.
