MWI Alumni in Session with Stereos

The public usually believes that a band’s rise to stardom happens over night. In the case of the band Stereos, it seems that this is only half true. The Calgary, Alberta band had been together for two years prior to submitting their tape to disBAND on Much Music. After making it onto the show the band rose from a small-town basement band to the radio pop-stars we are familiar with today. In the name of show biz the six month transformation was relatively short.

The band is comprised of singer Pat, lead guitarist Miles, rhythm guitarist Robby, bassist Daniel and drummer Aaron. They have taken the best bits from their favorite genres to create one of their own: “crunk-rock.”

“It encompasses everything. It’s pop music. It’s also got rock because we’re a band.  There’s a huge R&B and hip-hop influence because that’s just what we listen to,” says Pat. “It is the mutt of all music,” adds Miles, with a grin. Just take “She Only Likes Us When We’re Drunk,” which sounds like an old-time country tune crooned by a pop-rock R. Kelly.

On September 3rd, Stereos announced that their self-titled debut album will be released on October 20th which will feature both a regular and a deluxe version release. The album was recorded by producer Gavin Brown and mixed at Metalworks Studios by Lenny DeRose. Metalworks Alumni, Lake Curry was second engineer on the mix and David Mohacsi, Gavin Brown’s right hand man and production assistant worked the project from start to finish. Both David and Lake are graduates of MWI’s Audio Production and Engineering Program.

Stereos just recently announced their cross Canada tour with The Midway State, The Artist Life and The Envy for 2009/2010. It looks like it’s going to be a busy year for these guys! For more information and tour schedules please visit: http://www.myspace.com/stereos
