MPG supports Friends of We Care Annual Gala

Friends of We Care held their Annual “There’s No Place Like Camp” Gala on Saturday April 25th at the NEW Conference Centre at the International Centre, and Metalworks Production Group was there to provide technical and logistical support for the event.

For more than 25 years, Friends of We Care has dedicated all its hard work and efforts towards sending physically disabled children to summer camps through the Easter Seals camping programs by raising funds through the Foodservice and Hospitality industry across Canada. Friends of We Care has contributed close to $13 million, allowing more than 25,000 children with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience the joy of camping in facilities designed specifically for them. The experience at camp is based on abilities and not disabilities. Participants have the chance to sail, rope climb and make pottery, and most importantly spend 10 days just being kids.

Metalworks Production Group worked with the Friends of We Care gala committee in providing the room design for the new, smaller venue at the International Centre, including sourcing and providing décor elements for the evening. MPG set up a Digidesign FOH console, as well as the L’Acoustic PA system, along with stage and dance floor lighting and accent lighting for the Silent Auction and camp vignettes. Attendees could watch video presentations on screens and plasmas, via 6.5 k projectors.

MPG also put together the 40 x 32 foot stage (including a wheelchair ramp), with MPG techs operating as  show director, stage manager, lighting, audio, and video techs, and stage hands.

Metalworks Institute will host a Friends of We Care summer camp later this year, with Friends of We Care kids afforded the opportunity to work in MWI’s state-of-the-art recording facilities to write and record their own music. Further details on the summer camp will be released shortly.
