MPG Provides Support for 2009 Edgefest

Metalworks Production Group
provided production support recently for Edgefest 2009, the annual outdoor concert that took place at Downsview Park, on the northern edge of Toronto, on Saturday, June 20th.

MWI's Clynton O'Brien took in the day’s events, and braved a lengthy spell of rain alongside several thousand of his closest friends to take in a host of terrific young Canadian indie bands, including The Arkells, K-OS, Metric, Alexisonfire, The Cancer Bats, The Waking Eyes, and headliners Billy Talent. But, O’ Brien says that the rain eventually subsided into a mist, and the music more than made up for any concerns about the weather.

O’ Brien says he and his friends were “…blown away by an energetic performance by Metric,” a band that had recently recorded at Metalworks Studios.

With bands like Moneen and Cancer Bats (another band that recorded at Metalworks) killing the second stage, you would spend your time hoping the other bands would hold back from taking the main stage.

O’ Brien says that headliners Billy Talent hit the stage just before 9 p.m., “on a mission to prove not only are they headliner-worthy, but that their brand new album was definitely Canada’s next big thing.”

Billy Talent’s set capped off the evening, which ended early enough for true music maniacs to head back into the city to catch some of the bands performing throughout the city at the NXNE Festival. Edgefest attendees could also enjoy a special after party at the Phoenix.

“Overall,” says O’ Brien, “you couldn’t ask for a better lineup in a festival to kick off the summer.”
