| Faculty Profile: Alex Andronache
A 35-year veteran of the music industry, Alex promoted his first sold-out concert at Massey Hall at the age of sixteen.
Alex’s involvement in live sound began at the annual Mariposa Folk Festival in Ontario. He develop his skills firsthand while mixing artists such as, Bruce Cockburn, Steve Goodman, and John Prine. Within a year he started his own sound company, touring with Valdy, Keith Jarrett & Hank Snow.
The 1970’s lead Alex into concert promotions. He started working for Canada’s biggest concert promoter Concert Productions International, which was headed by, the now famous, Michael Cohl. With great determination, Alex soon became CPI’s production manager, and was an integral part of show production in several major Canadian cities for Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Supertramp, Kiss, Yes, The Bee Gees, Joe Cocker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dionne Warwick, Sha Na Na, Jose Feliciano, and many others. Two years later, at the start of their meteoric rise to stardom, Alex joined Canadian power trio Triumph as their tour manager.
Several years, hundreds of shows and millions of miles later, Triumph asked Alex to manage their brand new recording studio, Metalworks. Throughout two decades of Alex’s guidance Metalworks grew into the largest, most successful, Canadian recording facility. Alex then moved on to create the first successful, full-service producer management company in Canada.
As well as guiding the careers of many respected Canadian and International record producers, Alex represented the world renowned gypsy violin virtuoso Vasyl Popadiuk and his band Papa Duke. Alex also produced their critically acclaimed world fusion album. In 2007, after self-promoting a final 4 province Western Canadian tour for Papa Duke, Alex returned to the Metalworks fold, first as an administrator and later to the admissions department at Metalworks Institute, where he is also an instructor. Alex is now Metalworks Institute’s, Educational Counsellor. He travels to high schools across Canada leading presentations on career opportunities in the entertainment industry while teaching the Event Production & Management course.
Alex also reprised his role as tour & production manager for Canadian rock icon Triumph’s recent headlining reunion performances at Sweden Rock and Rocklahoma, two of the largest classic rock festivals of 2008. |
