Instructor Profile: Vel Omazic

Vel has spent the better part of the past two decades on the front lines of the Canadian music industry. He broke into the business with PolyGram Records (now Universal Music) but spent the majority of his career at Sony Music Canada.

While at PolyGram, Vel learned the ropes of promotion and publicity, where he served as the company’s National Publicity Representative and eventually transitioned to the position of Promotion Representative in the company’s Ontario branch. Vel eventually moved to Sony Music, where he was quickly promoted to the position of Vice-President National Promotion/Media Relations. During this tenure as Vice President, he played an active role in the career development of Canadian artists such as Our Lady Peace, Celine Dion, Finger Eleven, Amanda Marshall, Chantal Kreviazuk and The Trews, among many others.

Today, Vel has moved on to greener pastures and works as Vice-President Marketing & Communications at Green Living Enterprises. GLE is an organization specializing in custom publishing, magazine publishing, content, marketing, consulting, fundraising and events all specific to the environment.

Vel teaches Entertainment Statistics & Data Analysis and Publicity & Promotion at Metalworks Institute.
