Silverstein at Metalworks Studios
When you walk into the Studio One lounge at Metalworks Studios, you can tell that yes, musicians live here. The TV is on with sports blaring, the X-Box is on stand-by, guitars lean against the cushions of the couch, and there is no one to be found. You peek into the control room to find everyone huddled around the console. This will be the Silverstein’s ‘office’ for the next six weeks as they hammer out their first-ever concept album.
Friendly, humble and extremely talented are only a few of the things that come to mind when you meet Silverstein in their creative workspace.
Silverstein formed in 2000, in the city of Burlington, Ontario. The band has seen an incredible amount of success since then, having participated in major tours such as A Taste of Chaos and Warped in the States, the Give it a Name and Download festivals in England, as well as their first headlining tour of America, the sold-out Never Shave Again tour. Shane Told (vocals) admitted that their latest tour with Avril Lavigne was the most fun they’ve had yet. They played to crowds of 35,000 people in venues like the Tokyo Dome, and the band is hoping that this will help build a stronger fan base in Japan.
The glamour of touring can be extremely challenging and tiring, so the band decided that for their fourth studio album, they would stay close to home and be near their family and friends. Shane also mentioned that as a young teenager, he had heard that Guns ‘N Roses recorded their ‘Use Your Illusion’ album here at Metalworks Studios.
“I remember growing up as a kid and hearing about this place, and it’s kind of been a dream of mine to come here and record,” he says.
Metalworks Studios is proud to be a part of Silverstein’s journey. Fans can anticipate something new from the band this time around. Unlike their three previous albums, their up-coming release will be a concept album. Producing the album is Cameron Webb, well known for his work with Limp Bizkit, Monster Magnet and Social Distortion.
“We had a lot of pre-production kind of arguments and I think they were for the best, because things changed more then they normally change, and I’m feeling really good about it now” says Shane.
“Musically it is actually a progression for us,” echoes Neil Boshart (guitar). The release date of their latest album has not been determined, but you can expect to see Silvertein back out on the road in February.
