Halifax Entertainment Summit
Presented by Metalworks Institute

So many times you speak to people who work in a field that they don’t enjoy. They go to the office and participate in the daily grind, the commute, the 9-to-5 hours, and the monotony associated with a boring job. They treat their passion s as hobbies, and they doubt the possibility of creating a viable career out of something they love to do.

Metalworks Institute, Metalworks Studios and Metalworks Production Group are three businesses that began with an idea, a dream, and a passion. Now, as part of a cross-Canada tour, Metalworks Institute is raising the bar and challenging people young and old to pursue their passions in the field of entertainment.

For the first leg of the tour, the Metalworks Institute team found itself in Halifax for the week leading up to November 22nd, 2008. As part of this new initiative, the Institute visited businesses and schools, bringing a piece of their entertainment education to the east coast.

The first ever Halifax Entertainment Summit, was an absolutely free conference for filmmakers, television buffs, professionals, musicians, teachers, and anyone who was eager to learn more about the entertainment industry.

A panel of industry experts guided the Summit through in-depth and detailed information sessions and interactive question and answer periods. Summit panelists included Craig Titus (Academics Director, Metalworks Institute), Jim Norris (President, Norris-Whitney Communications), Noted producer/engineer Brian Moncarz (The Junction, Silverstein, Kyle Riabko), Asif Illyas (Mir), singer/songwriter David Myles, engineer/producer Al Strickland (Heartland Productions), guitarist/producer Jamie Alcorn, artist manager Andre Bourgeois, manager Wayne O’Connor, and educator Jonny Stevens (Music Nova Scotia). The panel was moderated by Alex Andronache of Metalworks Institute.

So the question still remains to those of you who are reading this article. Are you pursuing your passion as a career, or does it remain a hobby? Wouldn’t you love to get up, and go to work, and love what it is that you are doing?

The reality is that, a career in the entertainment industry is closer then you think!
