Friends of We Care Summer Camp at MWI

This past May brought Metalworks Institute and Friends of We Care together to celebrate 25 years of Making Dreams Come True for children with physical disabilities. Being a significant part of events like Friends of We Care is important for Metalworks, due to the great opportunities it presents for community involvement.
Sparked by a generous $15,000 scholarship presented by Metalworks, the eventful weekend was put into place. July 26th and 27th brought fifteen smiling children from The Friends of We Care Foundation Inc. into Metalworks Institute for two days filled with creativity, laughter, and of course, music.
This two day camp provided a group of children the opportunity to experience the various aspects of musical creation and production, while giving them the chance to explore Metalworks Institute’s educational facilities.
One of the highlights of the weekend was giving the children a chance to work side by side with songwriter David Leask, who helped the students to write their own songs, which they were also able to record and share with each other. Other activities included music trivia, recording and mixing tutorials, singing, and a live performance by Orange Records Artist Justin Hines.
This summer music camp would have not been made possible without the hard work and commitment from students and staff. Thanks to our students Eamon De Freitas, Dave Mohacsi, Jessy Singh and Chris Kingswell for sharing your gift of music, and also thanks to our crew members Nicholas Antwi and Tim Hay for setting up and tearing down. Thanks also to Metalworks Institute staff members Julie Hoffman and Noel Cadastre for their hard work in making this event an overwhelming success for both the children and Metalworks Institute.
