Alumni Update: Travis Sewchan, Audio Production and Engineering

Travis Sewchan graduated from the Audio Production and Engineering program in 2010. Shortly after graduating, Travis had the opportunity to connect with fellow graduate Noel Cadastre and was given the opportunity to help re-build a studio with Noel and the OVO team with producer Noah “40” Shebib.

With a studio created for Drake’s exclusive use, now called OVO Sound, it wasn’t long before Travis began being introduced as the team’s intern. As Noel’s assistant, Travis was given the opportunity to work on a few side projects which lead him to being involved in intimate studio sessions with; Drake, Keisha Chante, Chantal Kreviazuk, Glen Lewis, Chilly Gonzales (as assistant engineer to Noel Cadastre), Noah “40” Shebib, Noel “Gadget” Campbell, David Strickland.

Travis received his first official industry credit on “Take a Shot for Me” off of Drake’s Grammy winning album ‘Take Care’. Shortly after, he gained two additional mix assistant credits on Kelly Rowland’s album ‘Talk a Good Game’ for the songs “Red Wine” and “Love Me Til I Die”.

After working hard and proving his abilities, Travis was given a permanent home with OVO allowing him to earn his first engineering credit for Drake’s new single “Hold on, We’re Going Home” along with seven assistant engineering credits on the new album ‘Nothing was the Same’ for the following tracks; Own It, Worst Behaviour, From Time, The Language, 305 to My City, Too Much and Pound Cake. Months of work had been put into Drakes latest album recorded at Metalworks Studios. Throughout the project, Travis was given the opportunity to work with a high profile list of artists including; Anthony Hamilton, SBTRKT, Detail, Boi-1-Da, T-Minus, Hit-Boy, Nineteen85, The Weeknd and J Cole. He also got to meet Justin Bieber, Young Guru, Miguel, Wale and Dave Bolland.

Travis is currently the lead engineer for OVO’s upcoming new duo Majid Jordan featured on Drake’s track ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ and  he says “That they are going to change everything!”

OVO is Travis’ number one priority, but he also finds time to work as the CFO of a production company/record label with CEO Dujon Walker called Digitalheart Beats. Offering DJ services for corporate events and local gigs throughout the downtown area, Digitalheart Beats also offers recording facilities, artists, DJ bookings, and engineers to track/mix.

Travis says “all in all it’s been quite the ride so far and I know I’ve barely begun!”
