Alumni Update: Benjamin Chan, Entertainment Business Management

Benjamin Chan graduated from Metalworks Institute’s Entertainment Business Management Program in 2007. After having successfully completed the program, Benjamin began an internship at Last Gang Entertainment as an assistant digital coordinator and was soon after hired as an official part of the team. Last Gang Entertainment is a music label founded in 2003, releasing the first Metric album ‘Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?’ in 2004. Primary operations are based in Toronto, Canada with offices in London, England and Los Angeles, California. Last Gang’s core activities involve music production and distribution, international licensing, marketing and promotion, and overall project management.

Benjamin works as the Sync/Licensing Director (Film, TV, Games, and Soundtracks) and Publishing Administrator. Within this role, Benjamin pitches and attains placements as well as handles requests for musical works in movies, television shows, video games and any other mediums where audio and video are synchronized. He has worked with many amazing Last Gang artists and their management teams on album releases including Metric, Death From Above 1979, Chromeo, Crystal Castles, Purity Ring, Ryan Hemsworth, Operators and more. Benjamin also negotiates licensing fees and rights, reviews and delivers semi-annual reports and accounting to published writers and coordinates the day to day administration of publishing assets.
